 3 Days Western Kenya Cultural Tour Package

Day 1 – Kisumu Museum & Jaramogi Oginga Mausoleum

You will be received by our Naicef representatives at the airport/CBD/hotel for a quick briefing. From there you will be transferred to Wilson Airport along the Langata road for a flight to Kisumu.

Upon your arrival you will be heartily welcomed to Kisumu Dala and be transferred to your accommodation. After checking in, you will head for Kisumu Museum where you will be introduced to the entailments of Western Kenya cultures.

Here you will get to learn mostly about the Luo tribe, see their homestead structures and even enjoy an entertaining Luo traditional dance.

Being a city near Lake Victoria, you will also have a chance to see the aquarium in the Kisumu Museum. You will be able to see different fish species that are identifiable in the lake.

From there, after gaining knowledge of the Luo culture, you will head back to your hotel for lunch.

In the early afternoon after lunch, you will embark on a journey to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum. Here you will get to learn more about Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. You will see his grave place, his family lineage his wives’ houses and the legacy that passes on through his family.

Later in the evening, you will head back to your hotel, Sarova Imperial Kisumu, for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 – Kit Mikayi & Nabongo Mumia Cultural Centre

On the second day of your 3 days Western Kenya cultural tour, you will start with a sacred site visit, Kit Mikayi. You will check out of your hotel after breakfast, as you depart heading deeper into the Western Kenya regions.

Upon reaching Kit Mikayi, you will get to learn why the stone is referred to as the Crying stone. With your local guide, you will be able to learn of the cultural significance of the stone to the Luo tribe. You will also get to learn more about the Luo traditions and customs, such as the removal of teeth as a passage of rite.

Get to explore the stone as you climb it up and enjoy the stunning views. As you descend the rock, you will be surprisingly welcomed with traditional performances of the Luo culture.

Dress like a Luo and tag along as you enjoy the amazing energetic songs performed. Get to promote the locals by buying souvenirs, ornaments, baskets, and hats, among others, as you depart.

From there you will then head for Kakamega County, where on reaching, you will first check in to your hotel. Kakamega is famously renowned for being among the Luhya tribe lands, one of Kenya’s ethnic communities.

After lunch and having a moment of siesta, you will visit Nabongo Mumia Cultural Centre home to the Wanga Kingdom. Here you will get to interact with a local guide, who will guide you all through the royal family.

The Wanga Kingdom is considered to be the only kingdom that still exists in Kenya. Get to learn more about the royal seal and even the history of the famous Nabongo Mumia.

Thereafter, you will visit the local village where you will learn of the Luhya tribe alcoholic traditional drink, ‘Busaa’. You will also have a chance to try it out and interact more with the local people.

Later you will head back to your lodge, The Golf HoteL Kakamega, for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Kapenguria 6 & Pokot Culture

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge as you head for the Kapenguria museum. Here you will get to learn more of the Pokot culture and even the detention area, where the Kapenguria 6 were imprisoned.

The Kapenguria 6, led by the first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, were detained here during the struggle for independence. You will be able to learn more about how they came to be imprisoned and the history thereafter.

You will also be able to see the Pokot homesteads and how their structures were different. You will see the different artefacts and items that were used in the Pokot culture.

From there you will have your lunch at Kitale town, where you will first check in to your hotel and then spend the rest of the evening reviewing your tour.

Day 4 – Back to Nairobi

After an early morning breakfast, you will start your journey back to Nairobi. Upon your arrival, you will be dropped off at the airport/hotel/CBD as we bid goodbye, having explored the rich culture in Western Kenya.

2:00 p.m Jaramogi Oginga Mausoleum

After lunch, you will head to the residence of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Later you will drive back to your lodge.

6:00 p.m Dinner and overnight Prepare for dinner.
Day 2
10:00 a.m Visit Kit Mikayi

After breakfast, you will check out as you head for Kit Mikayi, a stone that was believed to be crying. Learn more about the Kenya culture, Luo tribe.
1:00 p.m Lunch From Kit Mikayi, you will proceed on to Kakamega County. Check in to your hotel as you have your lunch.
2:00 p.m Nabongo Mumia Cultural Centre and Luhya tribe village tour

(Historical & Cultural significance)

After relaxing and enjoying your lunch, head for Nabongo Mumia Cultural Centre. Be immersed in the culture of Wanga Kingdom.

Interact with the local Luhya tribe people and even have a try of their traditional drink “Busaa”.

Later head back to your lodge.

Day 3
10:00 a.m Check out. Head for Kapenguria Museum

After enjoying your breakfast, you will check out of your lodge.

You will then start your day with a long drive to Kapenguria Museum in West Pokot.

Learn of the Pokot Culture and also of the Kapenguria 6, led by Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

 

2:00 p.m Lunch You head to Kitale town to your hotel for checking in and lunch.
4:00 p.m Personal time You will spend the rest of the day reflecting on all the experiences you’ve had.
Day 4
6:00 a.m Back to Nairobi After breakfast, you will head straight back to Nairobi for your flight back home having learned of various cultures.
