Interesting abouts of Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park

Ol Donyo Sabuk means a large mountain in Maasai. This park was established in 1967. The area was once a farm owned by Sir William Northrup Macmillan in 1901. The farm at the time, hired the father of the late Tom Mboya to work on his farm as a sisal laborer.

On different occasions, Sir William hosted the former American President Theodore Roosevelt and British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. This was when they were on their game-hunting trips to Kenya.

In 1960, Wanjiku Kahore arrived on the ranch with her then-coveted linen business making a grand entry that turned Ol Donyo into a trading center.

There was an existing labor population that saw the growth of the business. Locals rewarded her by naming the adjacent trading centre after her. She was one of the most prominent businesswomen in the world.

McMillan Castle lies in the east of the park and the home is currently used for the production of pineapples. The locals in the area wonder why the couple put up such a huge area of settlement without children.

Interestingly, the area is enough to put three basketball pitches! The house is so big that the couple spent one year in one wing of the house and another year in another wing of the same house!

There is a section called the clubhouse, Kilavu, that hosts wild parties. Colonel Ewart Grogan was used to leading in the wine-tossing and spiced the sideshows that gained international recognition.
